Three Rivers Regatta at Point State Park: Aug 5-7

You gotta regatta! This three-day annual motorboat and river festival is back and includes a F1 ChampBoat Series race, jet ski stunts show, BMX stunt show, XPogo tricks, frisbee dog performance, a free Kids Zone, crafts and vendors, Sandsational Sand Sculptures, Venture Outdoors climbing wall, food trucks, and live entertainment from Better Than Ezra, Good Brother Earl and the Gin Blossoms.

Three Rivers Storytelling Festival at Schenley Plaza: Aug 5-6

Let your imagination run wild by the simple entertainment of storytelling. This two-day festival features true stories, folk tales, concerts and children programming from local and award-winning national storytellers including Kim Weitkamp, Antonio Sacre and Adam Booth. Don’t miss the FREE storytelling concert for families at The Carnegie Lecture Hall starting at 10:15 a.m. on August 5. See link for full schedule.

DreamOn Festival in Market Square: Aug 5-6

Let’s all scream for ice cream! Head to Market Square and enjoy a day of entertainment with over 20 musical acts, visual artistry from Boom Concepts, and top it all off by tasting one of the 20 ice cream flavors from Dream Cream.

The Steel City Con at Monroeville Convention Center: Aug 12-14

The Steel City Con celebrates comics, toys and pop culture entertainment. Meet TV and film celebrities including Christopher Lloyd from Back to the Future and Tom Felton from Harry Potter. Check out Q & A’s, interviews, photo ops, and the Artist Charity Quick Sketch. Don’t miss this Pittsburgh pop culture event!

Macy’s Elephant Day at the Pittsburgh Zoo: Aug 13

It’s World Elephant Day! Strike an elephant yoga pose at family yoga, make elephant crafts, and get your face painted. Meet the elephant keepers and watch them give out special treats. Discover how the Pittsburgh Zoo is working on the conservation of elephants in a special presentation at 3:30 p.m.

Family Fun Day “Under the Water and Waves” at The Frick: Aug 13

Spend an afternoon making art that celebrates everything water. Use inspiration from lakes, rivers and oceans to things that can float, sink and live in the water. What better place to be inspired than the beautifully landscaped five acres at The Frick? All activities are free from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Cat-a-palooza at the Western PA Humane Society: Aug 14

The annual Cat-a-palooza event has feline adoption, fun cat activities, raffles, vendors, and treats. Donate a bag of Purina cat food and receive up to 5 raffle tickets for a chance to win prizes. It’s a purrfect way to spend an afternoon!

Little Italy Festival in Bloomfield: Aug 18-21

Four days of fun! Walk the open streets and taste the local Italian food, shop at vendors, watch the bocce tournament, and enjoy music from over 30 musical acts. Musicians range from Italian performers to children’s groups, dancers, and a local Italian Idol singing competition. Prego!

Penguins and Pajamas at The Aviary: Aug 18

Waddle into The Aviary wearing your favorite pajamas and hang with the African Penguins. Explore The Aviary after hours and watch a movie, make a craft, and learn more about these birds. Read the penguins a bedtime story before you say goodnight!

BikeFest 2016: Aug 19-28

Grab your helmet and ride at the 12th annual 10-day BikeFest celebration. On Sunday, August 28, take a family-friendly cruise at the South Side’s riverfront trail with the largest organized bike event called PedalPGH. You can bike a scenic two to 12 mile car-free loop with full service rest and water stops, then celebrate at Finish Line Festival. See website for a full list of events planned each day.

Ballet Under the Stars at Hartwood Acres: Aug 21

Bring a picnic and blanket to the beautiful Hartwood Acres for a free, open-air performance of the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. Arrive early at 5:00 p.m., and participate in family activities including photo opportunities, ballerina dress-up and dancing on the lawn. Take a deep breathe and relax “under the stars”!

Community Events Manager - Jamie Welnick lives in the North Hills of Pittsburgh with her two year old son (Pete), husband of 5 years (Mark) and rescue dog (Dot). She is the go-to person for events in the region, and loves to pack up her family on weekends to check out a new community event, free concert, family fun run or outdoor hike. When Jamie is not exploring a new part of Pittsburgh, she enjoys running, restoring furniture and time at the lake. Her career experience includes management in corporate marketing, non-profit organizations, special events and media. These roles include Program and Events Manager at the Chamber of Commerce (in WI) and Marketing Director at Entercom Radio.
