The Hard Truth About Being a First Time Mom

I am the type of person who does not sugar coat things. Some people may say I am mean, but I view it as being honest. If you want to hear the truth about any situation you may be facing just ask for my advice.

My honesty about being a first time mom is real. It is real because I experience it every day. I have only been a mother for a little over two years now so my experience may be minimal, but my experience of being a first time mom is still fresh.

Friends have often asked me, what is it like to be a mom? So here is my spiel I tell my first time mommy friends who are not afraid to hear the hard truth.

Being a mother is hard. Being a wife, girlfriend, sister, daughter, and friend while being a mother is even harder.

Some days are dark, really dark. So dark that some days you may find it impossible to see the light. Some days you will get no sleep and the days will start running together. Some days you will get pee’d on and thrown up on. Those will be the days that you will not get to shower. Some days you will loose your patience and will want to throw in the towel.

Then there will be days that you will cry and I mean cry a lot. You will call the pediatrician a million times for each bump, scratch, and fever. You will most definitely check to see if they are still breathing multiple times a night.

You will almost never have the house cleaned, laundry done, and dinner on the table by the time your significant other walks through the door. You will never have a private or day-to-day conversation with your best friend or sister without numerous interruptions. Do not even think about going to the bathroom alone because your little one will be right behind you, oh and the dog too!

You will have to learn how to balance work, school, play dates, me time, date night and everything else in between while raising a tiny human.

Not only are you trying to navigate through all these new emotions and experiences of motherhood, but you also have to deal with the expert opinions of every mother in your mommy circle.

Even though being a mom is hard and the circles under your eyes will more than likely be permanent, there is absolutely no better feeling in the world than being someones mother.

The saying goes, “days are long and nights are short.” But, that first time your child calls you mama, or they give you the biggest hug you have ever felt, or they say I love you, your heart will be theirs forever.

You instantly forget about all those times you thought about quitting. You forget about all your tears and sleepless nights. Your job as a mother will be exhausting. It will be challenging. However, it will be the most rewarding thing in your life.

Always remember, you will overcome the bad days. You will be strong and you will love hard. Most importantly, never forget you are a great mother.
