9 Wise Quotes from My Five Year Old

My 5 year old, Ronin, is quite possibly the most stoic, mature kid I’ve ever known.  He brought home his Mother’s Day present for me from school yesterday, and without being prompted, he handed it to me along with a box of tissues – he already gets it!  He is a kind, respectful and patient child, who I know will grow up to be a compassionate, wise adult.  But while he’s little (and can still fit in my lap!) I have begun capturing a few Ronin-isms, which remind me of just what an amazing kid he is.  I wanted to share a few of them with you just in time for Mother’s Day:

  1. Rain is good, because it’s the only way trees can drink water
  2. Mom, did you know some people don’t know they are beautiful, but they really are?
  3. It’s ok to cry mommy – it’s our body’s way of getting rid of sadness
  4. No matter how big or small you are, you can always stop and take a deep breath
  5. Mommy, I got your tummy ready for Kirin (his little brother) so he would be comfy in there
  6. I have four parts in my heart – one is for you, one is for Daddy, one is for Kirin and one is for me
  7. Every night at bedtime, I ask him what his favorite thing of the day was – one day is answer was “….This right now”
  8. We can’t make the Earth too trashy, because that would be bad for us and the animals
  9. Mommy, everyone deserves to be happy, including me (in response to not getting fruit snacks before lunch!)

I cherish the moments I have with both my boys, but most of all I cherish their unique personalities and the wisdom they share by expressing how they view the world.  I feel as though I grow wiser when I listen to my children too.  Do you?
