Water Safety with Goldfish Swim School

Goldfish Swim School offers not just swim lessons but so many other programs like Family Swim, Jump Start Clinics, Parties and more for children 4 months to 12 years of age. If you have spent any time at a Goldfish Swim School location, Wexford/Peters Township, you would know that they take water safety very seriously. May was Water Safety Awareness Month and my family and I had an opportunity to experience one of their FREE family events on Water Safety. With summer right around the corner I knew this program would be the perfect kick-off to the swimming season for my 3, 7 and 10 year olds.

Before we even stepped foot in the pool we had the opportunity to meet some local heroes from the Wexford Volunteer Fire Company, Station 228 and gain a little insight on how these firefighters protect and save us.

Upon entering the facility each participant received a passport to take with them to the five W.A.T.E.R Safety Stations. As all of the guests were arriving we had opportunities for ballon making and face painting!

Prior to entering the pool area everyone was able to learn the 5 rules of water safety!

W – Wear Your Life Jacket (US Coast Guard Approved only)
A – Act: Throw Don’t Go
T – Take Swim Lessons
E – Educated on Water Safety
R – Respect the Pool Rules!

Helping children become comfortable and confident in the water is one of Goldfish Swim School’s top goals. They keep their water temperature at a warm 90-degrees to make the learn-to-swim experience as inviting as possible. With a 4:1 student-to-teacher ratio in their group classes and a 6:1 ratio in their baby classes, your child will definitely get the attention they need to develop strong swimming skills.

It’s never to early to get your new baby in the water! Here’s a startling fact to consider: According to the National Drowning Prevention Alliance, drowning is the leading cause of unintentional death for children ages 1 to 4. Goldfish Swim School offers classes and other programs as early as 3 months of age. Their experienced and trained staff knows how daunting it can be taking your little one swimming for the first time. That’s why they always make a concerted effort to ensure the comfort and safety of your family in any of their programs. Some baby friendly features they provide are:

  • Mini 1 and 2 classes, suited for children between 4 and 35 months, accompanied by a paerent
  • A 6:1 student/teacher ratio
  • Private changing rooms, some large enough to accommodate baby strollers
  • Clean, inviting and warm facilities
  • Changing tables and complimentary diapers
  • A large selection of iPlay reusable swim diapers sold at their Treasure Island
  • Yummy snacks sold at their Snack Shack

Catherine Lamm started taking her twin daughters, Cecilia and Johanna for swim lessons when they were 6 months old. Here’s what she has to say about her experience,

We absolutely love the hands on learning and the fact that we are able to be in the pool with the girls. We also love how small the class size is for their age group. My girls hate to get out of the water.
