Have You Decided Your Word of the Year Yet? It’s Not Too Late!

I don’t know about you, but 2017 was a doozy. It’s hard to believe it will be over soon. The past 365 days have flown by. Do you feel the same way? 2017 started out with a bang for me. Literally, and I don’t mean in a good way. I mean two cars colliding kinda bang. The kind of bang you’ll never forget. I had a strong feeling this had a precedent on the rest of the days following. I even felt like it was all my fault because I brought in on myself. How, you ask?  I decided 2017 was a year of firsts, and Lord, did it live up to what I said.

With my year starting off with such a low point, I thought this was a good sign because it can’t get any worse right? In some ways that was true, and others completely false. 2017 has taught me a lot of lessons. Namely, be careful what you ask for. This ties back into my choice of having a year of “firsts”. Yes, that meant I was trying new things but do you know what happens when you try something new? You either love it or hate it, however you have to try it first to really know.

That means my year was full of learning what does and doesn’t work for me. While finding what does work feels amazing, have you ever experienced something that didn’t work? It feels terrible, you feel as though you’ve failed when all honesty it just didn’t work for you. Thus giving me insight in choosing my words for the year to come. I learned to be careful what you wish for because the universe is listening and will give you what you want before you think you’re ready. Guess what I was wishing for before I got in my accident? A new car, go figure. I’d been dreaming and wanting a new car, but I had no idea I would total mine before that could happen.

2017 taught me to be careful what you ask for and be prepared for what you desire. This ties into choosing your word for the year. When deciding what your word will be, make sure you really want it and that it’s important to you. Also be sure that you are ready for the changes that may happen once you get it. Take it from me, there’s nothing more confusing than getting what you want and being unsure if you were ready for it. Some examples of popular words are: love, happiness, peace, and strength.

My word for 2018 is balance. I learned that it’s so easy to add to my plate and as easy as it is, losing balance is even easier. Things feel out of control and far out of my reach when I don’t have balance. My health being one of them. I’m deciding to start the new year being positively aware in what I want. How will you start yours? Have you chosen your word or phrase for 2018? Take some time and think about it. Comment below and share what your word for 2018 will be.
