Looking great in your clothes, no matter your shape or size (Part 1)

Yes, you can look great in your clothes, no matter your shape or size!

The key to looking great in any outfit begins with the proper under garments. Let us begin with the bra.

Most women are wearing the wrong size bra and don’t realize it.  If your bra hikes up in the back, chances are you are wearing the wrong size bra. The bra should fit snug around but not too tight and the straps should not dig into your shoulders. In essence, the bra should not be too loose or too tight.

Now let’s explore the different types of bras. There are underwire types and non-underwire types. Strapless, Sports bras, Convertible bras, Corset type bras and more. Each have their own special purpose. I won’t get into all the different material and designs right now, I’ll try and stick to the main areas in which a bra enhances the look of an outfit.

A. T-shirt bra:

When wearing a cotton t-shirt or semi form fitting shirt – You can wear jeans and a t-shirt and look great with the proper bra! I find the jersey material bras that don’t have stitching or seams on the cups are most complimentary. I also try to stick with nude or black color bras because they don’t show through white shirts.

B. Corset or Convertible style:

When wearing an after 5 or formal dress or gown -some women with a smaller cup size may not need this extra support but I find a corset or convertible style bra works best. It gives the right amount of support in the right areas.

C. Strapless bra:

For that tube top or strapless sun dress -Personally, I try to avoid this style at all cost but it is a definite necessity for bustier women. Thankfully technology has come along way.

D. The sports bra:

Another necessity for the active and athletic mom. These bras are great for keeping everything compact and condensed. However, I caution you not to wear this as an everyday bra unless you want a cyclops boob.

I find these are the main styles of bras a mom needs.

If you are nursing of course a good Nursing bra is needed as well.

Remember to check/measure your bra size twice a year. We must take care of our girls. A good fitting and comfortable bra can be just what is needed to enhance your confidence and style. It doesn’t have to be expensive, although bras can be. There are many ways to find a great fitting bra at a great price.

Next time we’ll talk about the underwear and how important they are to the wardrobe, the do’s and the no no’s and a few tricks to keep the dreaded wedgie at bay. It doesn’t matter what size, shape or height you are, everyone has experienced a wedgie before. Not only are they uncomfortable but they can also be embarrassing.  The proper undergarments are the secret tools to looking and feeling great in our clothes.  A great put together outfit fits your body type well and that begins with your underclothes.
