Enjoy a blissful and relaxing getaway putting spark back in your romance

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and are you ready for some romance?  If you are looking to put that spark back into your romance, or just a romantic getaway, I have some fairy-tale-like and relaxing places close to the Pittsburgh area.

Omni Springs in Bedford, PA

90 Minutes east of Pittsburgh, PA

I have personally been to this hotel and it is absolutely breath-taking.  The grounds are so beautiful, and it seems like their indoor pool is stuck in time.  You feel like you have been transported back to the 1920’s high society playground of the rich and famous.  Even in the winter time, this indoor pool is a must.  If you are looking for spa treatments, this spa utilizes the natural spring water from it’s eight springs in all their treatments.  Spa services start as low as $75 and can go upwards of $650.  After a relaxing time at the spa, choose from one of five different restaurants ranging from American flare to gourmet cuisine.

Book the hotel’s romantic package that include:

  • Luxurious accommodations
  • Concierge pre-call to assist with special romantic requests
  • Two (2) Mini-Bottles of Moet & Chandon Rose Champagne and Chocolate Covered Strawberries (3) delivered to room upon arrival
  • Standard “romantic” turndown with robes, music and lighting
  • Late check-out, 1:00 p.m.

Check for pricing and availability on their website.  Stay at this hotel and part of your room rate will go towards Help End Hungry in America.

Mansion on Fifth in Pittsburgh, PA

Downtown Pittsburgh

If you are looking for a getaway closer to home then try this amazing property right in downtown Pittsburgh.  The Mansion on Fifth is a 20,000 square foot mansion built in the early 1900’s.  It was the home of millionaire Willis McCook and his family.  Fortunately after a fire in 2004 almost destroyed the home, it was restored and re-opened as a 13 room and suites hotel in 2011.  Adjacent to the main Mansion is the Amberson House, featuring 9 additional guest rooms and suites, which re-opened in November 2012.

If you truly want a romantic setting to enjoy cocktails in the evening, then I recommend the Oak Room Pub.   The pub gives a romantic rustic setting that is low-key and relaxing.  It is worth pointing out the elegance of the oak paneling and ceiling beams.

The hotel offers a Dinner Date Night Package including:

  • An overnight for two in one of their elegant guestrooms
  • In your room will be a bottle of wine
  • A $50 dinner voucher to one of the fabulous new restaurants near the hotel

Check for availability on their website.

Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmington, PA

65 miles East of Pittsburgh

The Laurel Highland have some of the most beautiful landscapes in all of Pennsylvania.  For this reason, I am recommending the Nemacolin Woodlands resort with over 300 guest rooms situated on 2,000 acres of the Laurel Highlands.  When the weather is warmer there are many outdoor activities to do including gold, rock wall climbing, and Nature walks.  With this in mind, you may want to consider staying indoors and enjoying their internationally recognized spa with treatments ranging from fitness packages to detoxing wraps.

The Nemacolin Woodlands resorts boasts 8 different dining options.  Whatever your tastes you will surely be satisfied.  Enjoy a romantic dinner with an infusion of European and American cuisines at Lautrec, especially because it is a Forbes 5-Star and AAA 5-Diamond restaurant.  Enjoy a night-cap at one of the bars before heading to your room.

The Nemacolin Woodlands resort offers three romance packages including the Sweetheart Package with Strawberries and Champagne in your room, the Preferred Pride Package welcoming the LGBT community as a TAG Approved® resort with the Five Diamond Lautrec popcorn flight amenity, and the Bed and Breakfast package with great lodging rates and breakfast everyone.

The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, WV

260 miles South of Pittsburgh

The Greenbrier resort was built in 1778 and truly is one of the most beautifully landscaped properties in all of America.  Most notably, this resort has housed 26 presidents and many famous celebrities including Jennifer Garner and Brooke Shields.  If you stay at this resort make sure to keep an eye out because you never know who you may see.

There are four different areas on the sprawling grounds you can reserve a room.  However, the most romantic setting above all other places to stay is in the Windsor Club area.  The Winder Club area offers luxurious accommodations.  To point out, the Greenbrier offers the most on-site dining options with 19 different restaurants.  Pub-style food to gourmet cuisine will please everyone.

One of the most popular things to see at the Greenbrier is the underground bunker.  The bunker was built with the intention to be a fall out shelter for the members of Congress during the Cold War.  Fortunately, it never had to be used.  This is like no other bunker you will ever experience in your lifetime and worth seeing while you are there.  Tour are available.

If the bunker doesn’t interest you, choose one of the many romantic activities to do including a couple’s massage, carriage ride, leaving a note in the love clock, or enjoy some relaxation in the adult only area.

The Greenbrier offers a variety of different packages including a Bed and Breakfast package with discounted rates and buffet breakfast, a Dining Package with daily dinner and breakfast with luxurious accommodations, and the Spa Credit Package where you can add on a $250 daily spa credit.

Put the spark back int your romance this winter with one of the amazing getaways.  After all, Life is Better Traveling!
