It’s Okay to be Okay

There are so many seasons of life and motherhood, some days we feel like we are top of the world and other days we feel like we have absolutely failed (newsflash we haven’t, it just feels that way). The important point to remember is that all our feelings and seasons are valid.

It is also perfectly acceptable to be just okay. You are allowed to feel like everything is okay. You don’t have to complain about your kids, your husband, your house, you can be content at any given time and that’s okay.

You can feel like there were no extreme highs of the day too. Maybe things didn’t go quite as planned, but you felt okay. Maybe the day was just normal and routine, and that is okay too.

I strongly believe that some aspects of society, such as social media, make think we have to either be “on top of the world” or at “rock bottom,” but this just isn’t the case; life moves up and down and sometimes just chills around middle ground.
and you guessed it that’s okay!

It’s okay to just report that today was Monday, the 4 year old went to preschool, the 2 year old played cars while you answered emails/worked out/drank coffee, and you just had an okay day. Nothing great, nothing bad, just a day.

I personally cherish the okay days; while they might not be exciting, sometimes it is nice to just be. It can be refreshing to just be present, and to be okay with the way the day is going; rather than trying to shape it into a specific direction. Not everyday has to turn into some magical scene from a Disney movie, or be one for the family scrapbook.

This year one of my intentions is to stop trying to be extreme with my emotions (although extreme emotions are valid and happen),  and creating expectations for how a certain day should feel. My goal is to be okay with some days being okay.

(And although not the point of this post, it’s okay to not be okay too; as we know parenthood can be a rough road. Remember to reach out, so you can have an okay day soon too!)

Nicole G.
Nicole is a mom to two children each with big personalities - Reagan is currently 4 and Tyler is 2, they are exactly 26 months apart to the day, and ever since Tyler was born life has been non-stop! She's a stay-at-home/work-at-home mom who works full time as a virtual Social Studies teacher for middle and high school students. Although she was originally from the North Hills, 10 days before Reagan was born her and her husband relocated to the South Hills. (However, within the year they will be heading back North of the city to be closer to family). Nicole would rather spend time outdoors, preferably in the fall with a good book and a cup of coffee (or glass of wine), but realistically she is generally multi-tasking between work and the kids. She does love cooking and can often be seen having dance parties in the kitchen (usually with Reagan) while making dinner.
