Don’t box me in

There is no place like home or rather there is no place like the farm… lake house … camp… we all have it that one place where you would rather be.  Mine is here sitting on the porch at the farm where there is a cool mist coming of the 3/4 of an acre pond. And, there is farm equipment blocking my pristine view. The sun is coming up behind the farm across the dirt road just shining through our American flag and…. there is a fly in my coffee. But my children are laughing deep belly laughs and playing happily together. They are not, however, playing on tablets or watching YouTube, well because there is no signal up here in the middle of no where and we don’t mind at all. Time slows down up here on the farm. We are lucky to have a second place to call home to slow down and get to know each other again. And if you don’t its ok, you can still turn of the WIFI a few nights a week and pull out a board game. Sit out on the deck and do things the old fashion way.

Let your kids surprise you. My little girl is a prima ballerina, a princess in pink at home. She loves dressing up, wearing heels, fake nails and fingernail polish, but at the farm she is daddy’s camo princess. She loves dirt bikes, and camo. Getting dirty and catching salamanders. Sometimes, our children get put in to these tiny little boxes based one part of their personality. But we don’t have to let one interest define our child’s whole existence. Has your child ever been identified by one interest? Leave a comment below if this has ever happen to your child?
