 A new year has begun! January brings forth a time for new beginnings as we all start with a fresh 365 days. For Pittsburghers January is definitely still the thick of winter, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t lots of fun activities to share with your family. January 2nd
Family Story Time
Dormont Public Library

No need for registration for this program. But each Tuesday and Wednesday the library offers an opportunity for you and your little one to enjoy story time, play time with new friends and even make a craft! What a great way to spend the morning during the week.

January 4th
Social Butterflies
See Saw Center

This very unique event provides a learning environment designed to help your child play with other children, develop friendships, all while playing with in a structured environment. The class is taught by a staff of speech language pathologist who specialize in early childhood development. If  you have a child between the ages of 18 months and 3 years old, and have want to help them with their social interaction and development this event is sure to please. January 5th
Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood Live!
11am and 2:30pm
Byham Theater

Daniel Tiger’s neighborhood helps keep the spirit of Mister Roger’s alive for our children’s generation. This show is sure to please the whole family as Daniel and his friends travel upon the famous red trolley! Tickets available for purchase here

Parents Night Out: Science of Slime
Snapology Bridgeville, PA

Any parent who has a child under the age of 18 is aware of the obsessive popularity of SLIME these days. So it wouldn’t be surprising to see an entire children’s event centered around the topic. During this event children will learn the science and chemistry behind their favorite goo. The program is for children 5-14, is $39 per student, and includes pizza! Registration is required and can be done here

Destination Moon Family Day

Admission is free for children 17 and under from 10-2 during Moon Family Day (adult admission is still regular price). The Heinz History Center and the Armstrong Air & Space Museum have partnered up for this event, and the result is out of this world! Enjoy lots of moon themed events, the mobile planetarium, and learn everything there is to know about famous astronaut, Lance Armstrong. Even your little one is interested in space and astronauts they will truly love this event.

Do your little ones love all things creepy and crawly? Would they love to get up close and personal with their favorite reptiles, maybe even find one to join the family? Then consider the first attending Westmoreland’s very first Reptile Expo!

This special time every Monday is specifically for the smallest scientists, ages 2-6 years old. All of the special activities are specially geared toward the younger age group. There is story time, and arts and crafts, the planetarium and more to enjoy!

What better theme for an event than love and kindness! During this special event the Children’s Museum brings its special exhibit on love and kindness in the community, to the actual community!

This kindergarten enrichment program is aimed at providing children with an intro to multiple different sports. Born from the philosophy that children through play, this program helps them learn team dynamics, gross and fine motor skills, and provides great exercise! 4 sessions cost $80. PBS KIDS Family Creative Learning Workshop
Baldwin Public Library

For 4 Wednesday evenings in January The Ruff Ruffman show will be taking over the Baldwin Public library. With a series of workshops Ruff Ruffman will teach through creative play and exploration! STEM activities are designed for children 5-8 but younger siblings/children are welcome too! The sessions are divided into four areas, EAT, EXPLORE, MAKE and SHARE. Families will also enjoy a catered dinner! Session 1 on Jan 9th is entitled ” Mix it up! Playing with Mixtures”. Registration is required and can be done here

Mommy & Me: Bumble Cake with Grandma’s

If baking is an activity your family enjoys sharing then this fun, interactive cake decorating class is perfect for you! Children need to be 5 years or older to partake, but ticket includes 1 child and 1 parent. Together you will decorate a cake to resemble the abominable snowman names “Bumble”. Ride Like a Girl Winter Weekend
