Why I Like Doing Laundry

Piles of Laundry

Laundry. It never goes away. There’s always more laundry. And when you have a lot of kids, you have a lot of laundry. Like mountains of it. Like you could lose a small child amidst the heaps and piles.

But here’s a secret. I don’t mind doing laundry. Most weeks I actually look forward to it.

I only do laundry one day a week – on Mondays. Every Monday morning the kids and I bring all our laundry to the laundry room. Throughout the day, I put in load after load after load. By 9pm, when the kids are in bed, I have usually washed and dried all the clothes.

Then comes the fun part. Movie time! It takes me about 1.5-2 hours to fold everything and this is my time to catch up on TV shows or watch the latest chick flick. Since I don’t have much time to watch TV or movies, this is a treat for me. It’s peaceful, relaxing, and makes laundry feel less burdensome.

On Tuesday morning, the kids’ chore is to put their clean clothes away.

Voila! I’m done for the week and don’t think about laundry again until the next Monday.

Except for when my son pees in his pants or someone vomits – you know – things like that. When that happens, I wash and dry the clothes, but leave them in the drier or in a laundry basket until the following Monday.
